Bridge Inspection Intervals (BD 63/17)
This standard sets out the frequency and types of inspections required for highway bridges and structures.
BD 63/17 specifies different levels of bridge inspections, including general inspections and principal inspections. General inspections are routine visual checks conducted at regular intervals to identify obvious defects. Principal inspections are more detailed, hands-on examinations carried out less frequently, often requiring specialist access equipment, to assess the overall condition and identify hidden defects.
